Ramadan is a holy period that Muslims have to utilize by fasting, praying, and doing good deeds, as a way of getting closer to Allah. Adhering to the Sunnah acts (Masnoon Amaal) of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in this holy month has uncountable rewards and it enhances our faith. Eating Suhoor with barakah, breaking the fast with dates and the specific dua, performing the Tarawih prayer and reciting the Qur’an, each of these acts has a great spiritual value.
During Ramadan, charity and generosity are highly encouraged and there is no better time to offer Zakat, Sadaqah, and even provide iftar to others. The final ten days of Ramadan are particularly important, the Sunnah of I’tikaf and the seeking Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Power. Maximum benefit of this month can be achieved with increased dua, dhikr and forgiveness seeking with sincerity.
The guide also recognizes the most notable Masnoon practices to observe during Ramadan, along with the authentic duas to say and even what practices to avoid, including but not limited to backbiting, anger or wasting valuable time. These Sunnah activities will assist us in making our fasting more meaningful, spiritual, and more in conforming to the teachings of Islam.
Nawaitu sawma ghadin lillahi ta'ala
I intend to fast tomorrow for the sake of Allah.
Allahumma laka sumtu wa 'ala rizqika aftartu
O Allah! For You I have fasted and with Your provision I break my fast.
Dhahaba al-zama'u wa ibtallatil-'urooq wa thabata al-ajr, insha'Allah
Thirst is gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is certain, if Allah wills.
Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni
O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me.
Allahumma ighfir li warhamni
O Allah, forgive me and have mercy on me.
